Safeguarding

Every promise, and how to check it

How we keep your child safe in lessons with us, written for parents.

Every teacher has a criminal record check, renewed each year.

What we do

Teachers who live in the UK have an enhanced DBS check. A UK check cannot see records from other countries, so teachers who live abroad give us a police certificate from that country, and a UK check too if they have lived here. Everyone also gives two references and is interviewed. After their checks, they teach a practice lesson we watch before they teach your child. When a check runs out, the teacher is hidden from booking until it is renewed.

How you can check

Each teacher's page says which check they have and when the next one is due.

Every lesson is recorded and kept for [number] days.

What we do

Recordings are kept for [number] days, then deleted, unless a concern is raised, when we keep them for as long as needed. Our safeguarding lead also watches some lessons at random. We only share a recording with anyone else if the law requires it. If your child’s camera is on, the recording includes video.

How you can check

Reply to any lesson note to ask for that lesson's recording, and we send you a private link.

You can join any lesson, any time, from your own phone.

What we do

The lesson link is emailed to you, not to your child, an hour before each lesson. It works on any phone or laptop, and you can open it during any lesson without asking first.

How you can check

Open the lesson link we email you while a lesson is on.

Teachers never message children. Everything comes through you.

What we do

Teachers never see your child's email or phone number, and they agree not to share their own. Notes, changes and reminders come from Yassiru, to you.

How you can check

Every message you get comes from Yassiru. If a teacher ever contacts your child directly, tell us straight away.

In every lesson

  • The teacher is in a quiet room with a plain background, on a Yassiru account.
  • Your child’s camera can stay off. For early letters, the teacher may ask to see how your child shapes a sound. That is your choice.
  • For younger children, we ask that an adult stays nearby.
  • Children are called by their first name only.
  • Lessons happen at the booked time only, never arranged outside Yassiru.
